Annotation Following an introductory summary of sound attenuation in conventional superconductors, and three chapters on some unconventional superconducting systems (i.e. superfluid 3He, heavy Fermion superconductors, and magnetic reentrant superconductors), the succeeding five chapters are devoted to the study of the high- Tc superconductors. The final chapter provides a theoretical understanding of the different mechanisms that may be responsible for superconductivity in these novel superconducting systems, and for the contributions that sound measurements have made and could make to the understanding of these systems.
